ASP Producer Brief Template
One page. Zero guessing.
The Producer Brief Template is a practical digital resource for artists and producers who want to get aligned on the song, the sound, and the logistics before production begins.
A producer brief should answer three things clearly: what the song is, what it should become, and how you’ll know when it’s finished. This template gives you a structured way to define those decisions before the first session, reducing miscommunication and keeping everyone working toward the same record.
Inside this template:
- Artist, project, song, tempo, key, timeline, producer, and budget information
- A one-sentence definition of what the song is really about
- The intended destination for the song - playlist, radio, sync, live set, or another goal
- The feeling the listener should have at the end
- The moment everything in the song should build toward
- Three focused reference tracks with a specific instruction for each
- Space to clarify what is intentional versus placeholder in the rough demo
- Instrumentation wishlist
- Must-have elements
- Areas where you’re open to the producer’s creative input
- Sounds, instruments, or production choices you specifically do not want
- Vocal-production direction
- Arrangement and performance decisions
- Deliverables, revisions, timeline, splits, credits, payment, and file-sharing expectations
The goal isn’t to remove collaboration. It’s to make the collaboration better by giving everyone a shared starting point.
Instead of asking a producer to “make it huge” or “make it sound professional,” the template helps you turn taste and intention into usable direction - while still leaving room for the producer to bring ideas to the table.
Best for:
- Independent artists beginning a new production
- Songwriters working with a producer for the first time
- Producers onboarding new clients
- Artists hiring remote producers
- Collaborative projects that need clear creative direction
- Anyone who wants expectations settled before studio time begins
